We are seeking an innovative, highly motivated, energetic, service oriented and forward thinking Library Scientist with skills to play a critical role in moving our R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. (RJRT) R&D Library to a fully-functional 'Library of the Future.' This position offers the opportunity to work as the Library and Information Science specialist at RJRT R&D and to provide leadership in the use of evolving and existing technologies to transform the R&D Library into an efficient and effective R&D Information Management Center. The respective candidate will support a wide variety of scientific disciplines (e.g. chemistry, biology, toxicology, risk assessment, clinical studies, etc.).
The Librarian will work independently to provide full-service library support for the daily information needs of the R&D and legal communities.
Responsibilities will include:
- Plan the acquisition, organization, maintenance, utilization of materials and equipment in the R&D Library.
- Recommend and manage approved subscription and service contracts.
- Provide R&D, Law, and Reynolds American (RAI) affiliate companies with current, concise, accurate, timely and relevant information using on-line searching of scientific literature databases.
- Administer the R&D Library Web and SharePoint sites.
- Administer the R&D Library system Open Text Livelink Collection Server.
- Liaise with RJRT Information Technology and Open Text vendor to ensure maintenance of the Open Text Livelink Server(s), Webtop and other applications
- Collaborate with Manager and the Electronic Content Management (ECM) Team to implement an ECM solution for R&D.
- Instruct Library patrons to effectively search the Library holdings using the R&D Library systems.

Requirements |
- Masters in Library Science and Information Technology from an ALA-accredited library school with 0 to 5 years experience.
- Background within a scientific/technical discipline (e.g. chemistry, biology, etc.) is a strong plus.
- Practical experience with technological applications including Web site and SharePoint development, and Electronic Content Management.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications as well as experience with online products such as Dialog and Science Direct.
- Practical experience with Open Text Livelink Collection Server and Webtop application a plus.
